Frequently asked questions

About our free website initiative

On what platform does Ohkie build my free website?

WordPress. All free websites are built on WordPress. You can learn more about WordPress here.

Do we own the website once it's done being developed?

Yes and no. Technically you own it because we give you full access to the backend, allowing you to do practically anything you want. However, you cannot take it elsewhere to host.

How long does it take to build my free website?

We begin development after 2 weeks of signing up. This gives our account managers time to collect all the necessary content and to design a wireframe with you. After the two week prep period, we begin development. From there you are looking at about 2 weeks before you will receive your first draft. As a general rule, it should not take more than 1 month to receive your first draft, unless, you have a very elaborate website. Need it faster? We offer rush options! Check out our fine print and click on the “delivery” tab.

Do you continue to maintain the site after it's launched for free?

No. Only the initial build is free. Once you are happy and the site goes live, the “free” initiative stops. Then, you can hire developers to maintain your website moving forward. Our managed hosting only covers server-side maintenance.

About our managed hosting

Do we have to use Ohkie developers when hosting with Ohkie?

No. We are first and foremost a hosting company. We allow server access to anyone who you give the green light on. We invite you to use our partner company for all your development needs, but do not force it, nor push it upon our clients in anyway.

How is Ohkie's hosting different than any other host like GoDaddy or Bluehost?

It’s important to understand the difference between Ohkie’s managed hosting and the typical competitor. When you pay $5 or $10 per month for hosting at a competitor like Godaddy, you are getting shared hosting. In a nutshell, that means that a lot of websites are sharing one large server. This hinders performance and makes load speed inconsistent. Sometimes it’s faster sometimes it’s slower. Also, if the server crashes or fails for any reason, everyone goes down.

At Ohkie, we don’t offer shared hosting at all! We only offer VPS hosting (Virtual Private Server Hosting). Which means that every single website is on an individual virtual server. The benefits are that you get consistency and performance always. And if your server has an issue, it’s only you that is effected.

Now, on top of that, we also manage the server. That’s why we call our service ‘Managed Hosting’. This means that we actually take care of any and all server related needs – within the flat monthly rate that you pay. You will never get an IT bill related to your server or hosting.

Plus there’s some very important perks that we offer that come in handy too. Like: up-time monitoring, free SSL, monthly maintenance, patching and security.

So in essence, we nothing like a typical shared hosting provider. We are actually a boutique hosting company offering a very luxurious hosting service for very affordable rates.

Need proof?

Just to understand how attractive our managed hosting offer really is, let’s look at GoDaddy to see how much they charge for a Managed Hosting on Virtual Private Servers: https://il.godaddy.com/en/hosting/fully-managed-vps-hosting#plans – That’s right! GoDaddy’s Managed Hosting service starts at $99 per month – giving you a server close to the specs of our $30. That puts Ohkie at a significant ($69/M) discount from our mainstream competitors.
